The Pacific Princess in Dominica.
When we arrived back to the port area, we looked for a place to relax in town with views before getting back onboard the ship. John below.
When we arrive back to the ship, we learned that earlier that morning during normal mooring operations on arrival in Dominica, a mooring line was accidently dropped by the local dock hands and unfortunately wrapped around the starboard propeller shaft. Local divers tried to clear the line, but could not. Below is part of the mooring line that was wrapped around the propeller shaft. This must have been the line the local divers were able to clear, however it was not enough. Princess had to request special Divers from Miami.
We thought the divers would arrive the same night, and free the line, but they did not arrive and so we had to overnight in Dominica instead of heading to our next scheduled port of call, Tobago.
The next day, Wed April 1st (and this is not a fools joke), we had an unscheduled day in Dominica. John and I were not sure what we were going to do, the shore excursion department came up with new tours, but nothing that interested us. The road trip up to the falls was a trill ride alone and we didn't really want to repeat it to see another fall area.
At breakfast in the dining room, we met a couple that went to the Champagne Reef on their own the first scheduled day. I really wanted to go to the Champagne Reef, but the ship tour was via catamaran and I am prone to motion illness, I have learned to stay off small boats, including catamarans in oceans or seas.
John and I ended up going, along with another passenger, via taxi to the Champagne Reef to snorkel from the shore. It turned out to be such a wonderful experience. At the Champagne Reef, there is a place to rent snorkel gear and change or shower. They also sell drinks and snacks. The lady attendant told us where to snorkel to see the most fish and the bubbles.
It really does feel like you are swimming around in Champagne.
